A more in depth look at the meaning of baby and baby actions expanded from my Top 25 Common Dream Symbols.

Babies in dreams can have several different meanings but usually a baby represents: a new idea, new concept or new project that you have given birth to; A responsibility you have now accepted, a personal project or thing to do. It’s your ‘baby’. For example your baby could be a creative idea you have and plan to show the world such as draw, paint, put into music, or starting a business, new job or new project. Something that is yours alone, that you have birthed. Be a proud parent and display your baby to the world!

A baby: Can represent aspects of you being or acting like a baby, immature, innocent, a new personality trait coming out or starting to be visible in you.

Feeding a baby: You are feeding and nourishing your project. Watching it grow and mature seeing progression. Could also be you encouraging or nourishing the child part of yourself which if it is a brat is not good!

Dead Baby: To dream of a dead baby or dying baby is not a pleasant dream but keep in mind this is not a real baby it is a representation of an important project, job, idea or creative endeavor that you have let die or dropped accidentally. This dream could be pointing out to you that whatever this baby represented it would be wise for you to take care and not let your ideas die or sacrifice your ideas or projects for the sake of someone or something else. This is something many of us do to ourselves often (think of others before ourselves) could point out that you have allowed another person or situation to take away your hopes and ideas to the point of you letting it, the ‘baby’ die.

Bathing a Baby: Points to you making a fresh start, cleaning up messes and correcting mistakes you have made. Wash away the negative (dirty) stuff and starting new.

Dropping a Baby: Can be pointing out to you that you have dropped a valuable project or idea or hope. Take heed to this dream and consider what the baby represents. You may want to reconsider the action you are about to take in “dropping” it.

Killing a baby: This dream is asking you to look at what you are doing in waking life and is it really worth sacrificing your ‘baby’? Is it worth the cost?

Losing a baby: Losing your important and precious ideas, or losing hope in relation to something valuable to you

A lot of babies: Could be pointing out too many responsibilities, options, goals, or even problems or opinions for you to deal with.

Twin Babies: Can represent two equally valuable projects or ideas or goals.

I hope that these meanings can help you in your dream interpretations. As always, I remind you to ask yourself first what a symbol means to you the dreamer before consulting a dream dictionary. A good thing about dream dictionaries is that they can lead you or prompt you to meaning if you are stuck on something. Sometimes by even not agreeing with a meaning you can define what it does mean to you!

Falling in your dream is basically waking back up – the action of returning to consciousness.

The old tale that if you fall and hit the ground in your dream that you will die in your sleep IS NOT TRUE. If you hit the ground in the dream, you will bounce right back and the dream will continue… falling at this point would have the meaning of “falling from grace” or “fall on your face” = embarrassment. It is a play on words, falling in love, heading for a fall, falling down on the job, etc.

Drowning in dreams means you are in a situation that you feel you are in over your head, being in too deep, overwhelmed or emotionally overcome. If you dream you are drowning in muddy or murky water this indicates you are overwhelmed emotionally. There is always a possibility that it is an ESP warning. It is important that you note the background of the dream and your emotions/feelings in the dream.

Flying in dreams indicates our ability to rise above a situation or emotion. It can be an indication of astral travel or an indication of your desire to move up to higher levels of being.

There is much discussion in the scientific world as to whether or not we dream in color or in black and white. I have read that some scientists believe that about 80% of our dreams are in color while others say it is biologically impossible to dream in black and white. On a purely psychic level and not so “scientific” meaning of colors comes from clairvoyants. A clairvoyant is someone who can see peoples aura’s (energy surronding us) say that a subjects mood or feeling are a resultant color. i.e. “green with envy or jealousy” “seeing red” or “having the blues” etc.

Colors in dreams as in life also have different meanings with respect to our personal feelings, experiences and likes or dislikes of a particular color. For example in general the colors black , dark grey or browns are said to depress people who wear these colors or are surrounded by them. But for me personally being a fashionista those colors are fabulous and when I wear black I feel powerful, in-style and confident. When I wear brown I notice I am in a more down to earth mood. I have worked in the fashion industry for years and any woman in fashion knows the little black dress (thank you Coco Chanel) is a must for all of us! And far from depressing! But let me not get into fashion here - that is a whole other blog! I simply wanted to point out how colors have personal meaning too. The color meanings listed below are general meanings. As I always point out go with your gut or intuitive reaction to the color when interpreting it in your dream.

Black: dark and mysterious, death, mourning or hate if accompanied with feelings of fear. Can also be uncertainty. If you have positive emotions in your dream with the color black it can hint to unmanifested spiritual gifts or qualities

Blue: Truth, Wisdom, calmness, tranquility, devotion (true blue)

Brown: Practical, down to earth, earthy as in nature

Green: healthy, growth, goodness, peace, healing/healer, learning

Gray: depression, fear, illness and undefined or not clear, i.e. the gray area or it’s not black or white its gray meaning not this or that but something in the middle.

Purple: Royalty, healing abilities, spiritual oneness with God, spiritual powers, success, psychic abilities

Orange: Friendly, out going, social, energy, happy.

Pink: Love, affection, kindness, softness, lack of fear

Red: Pure, raw energy, action, power to love or hate or conquer, controlling, agressive

White: Purity, clean, fresh, perfection, holiness

Yellow: Intelligence, happy, new beginnings

Pastel colors are hues of the primary colors and indicate an immaturity or weakness in the area of the particular color.

May you have wonderful colorful dreams tonight.

When we are sleeping nothing else is … your body and all its organs are all functioning, including your mind. Luckily we don’t have to tell ourselves to breathe and our heart to beat while we are sleeping!

Our subconscious mind never rests or sleep, it keeps on going to keep us going, it controls our vital forces. Sleep helps us heal faster when we are sick or injured. Clearing your mind and forgiving yourself and everyone else before sleeping helps healing take place more rapidly. Lack of the appropriate amount of sleep can cause us to be irritated, depressed and can cause mental disorders.

For me, I think dreaming is the best part of sleeping because many years ago I started interpreting my own dreams. My dreams have given me messages of hope, wonderful ideas, confirmations to questions I have had, solved problems for me that I couldn’t solve while awake “thinking and thinking about them! my dreams have also warned me of danger and inspired me to do good things. Interpreting my dreams has increased my self awareness and intuition and it fun and interesting to help others see how their dreams can do the same for them.

Here is one of the ways I use my dreams to help me.

Prayer and Sleep Bring Counsel:

Take a situation where you need help with making a decision and before sleeping say a prayer or affirmation over and over in your mind while falling asleep. You will awaken with an answer – it may be from a dream or it may come from an intuitive knowing/gut feeling you have upon waking. Here is an example:

A woman living in Dallas has a job offer in New York City at twice her salary she is making now in Dallas. After considering everything and doing the pro and con list etc. she was still wondering if she should take the move. So that evening before going to bed she said an affirmation/prayer regarding this matter. The next morning she awoke and had a persistent feeling to not accept the position. She phoned the company and following her gut feeling/intuition, she declined the offer. In the end, about 2 months later her inner knowing (not a good idea to move and take the position) was verified as she learned that the company went bankrupt.

Try it for yourself and discover the counsel your sleep brings you. As you are about to go to sleep, claim that the infinite intelligence of your subconscious mind is guiding and directing you. Then expect an answer perhaps in a dream or on awakening.

Sweet Dreams.

It is fairly common and easy to communicate with our dearly departed ones as often as we would like to. While we are in the dream state our conscious mind is more open and allowing of the communication. If someone you love has recently departed and you are not recalling a dream about them, don’t be discouraged. They are visiting you only you are not remembering because when someone we love has died recently the memories are very raw and painful and so you will not remember the visits until a time when you have healed and grieving is not so intense. Some people that I have loved that have passed on communicate with me in my dreams right away, some later on after a period of time.

Years ago, while in meditation, I had a spirit show up that I didn’t know. At first, I thought I was wrong and tried to ignore him. He persisted. He was very strong impressing my mind with his face and invading my meditation. I finally asked who he was and he told me his name was Chris. I then sketched a likeness of him in my journal. I had no idea who this guy was or why he was coming to me – he just kept saying his name. During this time, I was teaching a dream class in Houston and this night of my class it was pouring rain along with thundering and lightning. Quite a storm. The receptionist at the center where the class was held called me and asked me if I was coming and she asked “Please, don’t cancel your class there is a couple that are insistent on coming and are driving from Galveston.” I told her that I had no intention on cancelling the class that there were already 10 others confirmed. Once I got to the center everyone but the couple were there in the room. We waited a few minutes for the couple to show but they were running late so I decided to go ahead and start.

About 15 minutes into the class the couple from Galveston arrived and took their seats. We were in a casual setting and I was describing the different types of dreams. As soon as this couple sat down, my “friend” Chris appeared next to me. He was so excited and kept saying to me “That’s my mom and dad! “ over and over like an excited little boy in a candy store. I remember, telling him to calm down (in my mind) I don’t want to appear crazy, by talking to a guy only I am seeing – this is a dream class not a medium class! At this point, the dad asked me “How do you know when you dream of someone who is dead if it is a visit from that person or just a memory dream?” I was beginning to get the picture now. Everyone else was very interested in this answer and so I told them my experience of visitation dreams and what I knew. Keep in mind all this time this spirit is jumping up and down next to me and talking so excitedly but I really didn’t not feel comfortable blurting out across the room. Plus, I am almost losing my train of thought on teaching the class because having someone else talking in your head is very irritating to say the least! In the end, after class was over the couple walked out. My spirit “friend” Chris was jumping up and down to make contact with them. I told him “Okay,!” at the risk of looking like a lunatic this better be your parents!!

I stopped the couple outside and told them the whole story of my meditation and a young man in his mid twenties who has come to me. I described what he looked like. Both the woman and the man started to tell me that their son had been murdered. I stopped them before they went any further and told them what he looked like and they confirmed with tears that was their son. I told him he is here and he has been communicating with me for two weeks and that he was here now. They had been desperately seeking many ways to contact him. He had come to them in dreams but weren’t sure if it was really him or not. I told them that many times while in the midst of our grief of losing a loved one we are not certain of what is a visit and what is a memory created by our own sub-conscious.

This subject of visitation dreams of the dead runs deep but here are a few common traits of a visitation dream:

* a very real, clear, feeling, focused dream, REALity feeling of the visit.
* lack of symbolism as in an ordinary dream – very little of a story or plot
* Strong emotions: love, forgiveness, or peacefulness sometimes but not often anger or fear from the spirit
* A touch or hug – physical contact, a reaching out to you
* Often, the spirit looks happy, younger, more healthy or vibrant than when they passed.
* Knowing..you have the feeling, certainty that it was the person…”I just KNOW it was him/her”
* Sometimes you can feel their presence on near where you are sleeping

Many Blessings,

Ask yourself what have you been getting lately? If we are stuck in worry, fear, loss and or lack than that is what shows up in our lives. And if you keep rehashing a past hurt or loss then that too keeps you in that energy and continues to create the same in your present life. While it is important to think about a situation or event that caused you pain so you can learn from the situation we don’t need to stay stuck in it. In order to make the best of it and move on we need to honor ourselves and what we experienced within that situation. Grieve, accept, learn, forgive yourself and others involved, regroup and move forward with your life. When we keep living in the past , complaining or rehashing a misfortune it only builds walls around you to block your good.

Our positive and negative thoughts also play out in our dreams. One of the best ways that you can guage where you are in your life subconsciously is through your dreams. If during your waking hours you “put on a happy face” in the midst of not so happy times, then your dreams could reflect that you are not being true to yourself by various dark and dreary dreams. Perhaps you dream of a mask or make-up or other disguises that in dreams represent you are hiding your true self. In addition, when you wake up from a dream the most important clue to your true emotional and subconscious state is the feeling you have immediately when you wake up which is usually a continuation of emotions in your dream, what you are truly feeling. I have had what I considered really good days where I felt fine, everything went well during the day but at night my dreams were dark and filled with frustration. This means that there are deeper beliefs and or thought patterns that are driving me unconsciously that I need to change in order to get what I want out of my life. On the flip side, when we are experiencing deep sorrow or grief we may have light dreams, happier dreams which is our inner light and beingness reflecting that it is there and it will see us through these dark times. I remember having some of my most beautiful and comforting dreams during one of my darkest periods after my boyfriend had passed away.

Have you awakened from a dream where you just felt lousy? Maybe it was a sad dream filled with frustration or angry and you then all day long you felt out of sorts and just couldn’t get on track into your groove. Whenever this happens try to pivot that negative emotion to a more positive emotion before getting out of bed. To pivot is to think of something that is just slightly better then that thought will bring another thought at that same level and then another and so on until you are in a positive emotional energy level. Here is an example: You wake up from a dream and you are in a pissy mood and if you get out of bed with that ”attitude” believe me you will keep attracting more pissy experiences to yourself on and on all day. You stub your toe, trip on something on the way to the bathroom, then you spill your coffee or tea on you, then the traffic is backed up and you get every red light and it goes on and on. However, IF you would instead pivot from that pissy mood to a more positive thought before getting out of bed i.e. “Boy am I glad that was just a dream and I am awake now and can choose my mood”, “hey it is sunny outside, oh I am so happy spring is here I am looking so forward to being off this weekend where I can …….” You see once you start on one slight improvement it brings another at that level and so on. Then you can get out of bed and go about your day bringing more and more good experiences to you. It doesn’t matter what the thought is specifically what you are looking for is the emotional energy to raise your vibration to a level of positive attraction.

At the end of the day, when you go to sleep, end it on a positive thought level that you really feel within you. Saying a prayer, forgive anyone including yourself from any missteps earlier in the day and be filled with gratitude. Keeping our energy level and thoughts raised to the level of goodness to ensure positive dreams and good life experiences.

Many Blessings and Sweet Dreams.

Sweet Dreams.

Remember you are the best interpreter for your dreams because they are reflections of your thoughts, your beliefs, and your experiences. Out of all the brilliant people in the world you are the most brilliant scholar of yourself. In my work here I only offer to guide you on your own journey based on my knowledge and experiences.

When you first awake from a dream you may recall a lot or very little. There will always be something that gives you a clue to the dream whether it is a feeling, emotion, a song, a color, a symbol or a fragment of the dream. It could be anything, pay close attention to what is going on when you first wake up. Record whatever comes to mind in your journal. You may even want to sketch it out.

The night before I go to sleep prepare a page in my journal for the next morning as follows:

Date:

Dream Title:

Feeling upon waking:

Outstanding symbol, object, color, song etc:

Weather:

People:

Names:

Outstanding words or numbers:

Main Action or Situation:

When I wake up I just start writing anything and everything that comes to mind. Sometimes I don’t even fill out that stuff above until I am finished writing the dream. Write it all down and try not to edit yourself or worry about spelling. This is first and foremost your personal journal for your eyes only not something someone else sees or a test to be graded! Secondly, if you write with abandon you can get everything out as opposed to omitting/forgetting things because you are busy checking your spelling and grammar.

Next, go back and rewrite it more coherently and list outstanding items etc. Pay attention to any feelings or thoughts that pop into your mind relating to this dream. How does it remind you of yourself and what your waking present life? Write that down.

When you go to interpret this dream make sure you have plenty of time to do so otherwise just leave it for later that night or whenever you don’t feel rushed. It can be hard enough to wake up and write what you can before getting ready for work and all the other things we have to do in the mornings. Sometimes you can just be a weekend dream worker and work on a weeks worth of dreams on Saturday or Sunday or your days off. I often go back over my dreams later in the week.

Utilizing a dream dictionary book can be helpful in sparking an idea or a hint but try to rely on your own personal feeling and meaning to each part of your dream. Asking yourself Who, What, When, Where, Why and How can be very helpful when discerning a meaning for a dream. If you get stuck, just walk away and leave it for awhile. Working with our dreams is meant to be fun and helpful not another job or chore to be dreaded.

After you have understanding or clarity to the meaning of the dream ask how this applies to your life and then make the changes or adjustments to enhance your life accordingly.

Remember be open, receptive, relaxed and have fun. You are learning about one of if not THE most interesting and complex creatures on earth: YOU a spiritual being having a human experience.

Many Blessings and Sweet Dreams.

Cheri

Here are a few interesting famous and creative dreamers and what their dreams brought them. It just go to show that working with your dreams can really pay off!

Paul McCartney dreamed of the tune for the Beatles song “Yesterday”

Mary Shelley had a nightmare that inspired her to write Frankenstein

Abe Lincoln had a dream of his own death

St.Patrick followed messages from two dreams he had into becoming a missionary

Fredrick G. Banting dreamt of the cure for diabetes – insulin for which he received the Nobel Prize

Stephen King the novelist was inspired by his dreams to write his stories “Misery” and “It”

Madam C.J. Walker first female self made American millionaire. She had developed a scalp condition that caused her to lose her hair. She then created a formula and healing conditioner that she says was revealed to her in a dream. Way to go Madam Walker!

Dreams during the Roman Era were thought to be messages from the Gods. Many dreams were submitted to the Senate for dream analysis and interpretation regarding many issues of the day. In addition, dream interpreters accompanied military leaders into battle and campaigns for their help in deciphering the messages from the Gods.

Two of the most famous dreams of course are from the Bible: Joseph who was Pharaoh’s adviser and dream interpreter interpreted the famous dream Pharaoh had on the seven fat cows followed by seven skinny cows. Another famous dream interpreter is Daniel from the Bible and is considered by many vital to the history of dream interpretation. In the book of Daniel, he (Daniel) is King Nebuchadnezzar’s adviser and the King would not tell his dreams to his advisers in order to prove they were true seers, he demanded that they divine as well as interpret his dreams. (No Pressure there!) Anyway, Daniel prayed to God to reveal the Kings dream and his wish was granted.

Is it not known to all people that the dream is the most usual way that God reveals himself to man?

                                                                                                                                                                                                   — Tertullian

For the past 20 plus years that I have been interpreting my dreams and dreams for others I have met some people who have no interest or desire to understand the value in interpreting their dreams. In all my studying and gathering of information from many great scholars and dream analysts such as Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud and Robert Moss etc. there are many things about dreams that are still unanswered such as: Where do our dreams come from?, Why do we dream?, Why don’t we dream in our verbal language? I do not want to go into debate and discussion about those things which I still have not found valid answers to for my own belief. I want to stay on the subject of why I believe dreams need to be interpreted.

There has yet to be scientific discovery in regards to meaning and feeling that proves or disproves theories on whether or not a dream has a message or that its intention is to have meaning to the dreamer. We don’t know how images are made in our dreams or the stories the images tell us. Where are they from? Do they come from God, the soul, the mind, unconscious or a bunch of neurological firings?

What I do know and what I believe is that a dream once it has been “figured” out by the dreamer can enhance the dreamer’s knowledge of themselves or solve a problem, change a habit, and inspire.

Here are a few comments I have received on dreams and dream interpretation:

“I don’t dream or I don’t dream much”

There are some people who do not dream according to a few scientists and doctors. These people seem to skip through the REM or rapid eye movement stage which is the dreaming stage of the sleep cycle. Other doctors and scientists say they really can’t prove if everyone dreams or not. So, when someone responds with I don’t dream I am usually intrigued and also a bit sad for them because I think our ability to dream is really a wonderful thing.

“Dreams don’t have any meaning to them”

Actually, they do. There is a plethora of research that shows how our dreams reflect our waking concerns, problems and help us cope with stress, solve problems and even inspire ideas in us. I usually recommend that if they would just try a few weeks of interpreting and understanding their dreams they will see the meaningfulness of at least one dream.

“How do I figure out what it means when there are no words? Why can’t dreams just be like a letter instead of a bunch of pictures?

It would be nice if when we go to sleep a letter would appear saying Dear SuzyQ, Hi here is a message for you…..But that is not how it works. Dreams speak to us in our first language and that is one of images, symbols and things we see not necessarily a bunch of letters that arrange a word meaning to the image. There are basic meanings to common symbols but then there are other things that have different meanings to us by what they symbolize and our experience, culture, age, with said symbol or thing. Also, it has been said that dreams are more direct when we are in a state of emotional openness or dire situation.

I say the reason’s to interpret your dreams are: to know your self better, solve problems, stop bad habits, help you cope with stress, and be inspired to write the next best seller, new invention, cure a disease, make more money and be happier. And lastly, because dreams are an amazing gift to us wherever or whomever they come from.

Sweet Dreams, Big Dreams.

Cheri
