What were you wearing in your dreams last night? 

Did you know that clothing and what we wear during our nighttime journeys is an
important key to understanding the whole message of the dream? 

The clothes we wear or don’t wear in our dreams represents our ideas of how we look to others, our outward appearance like our attitudes, emotions true or “put on”, and ideas.  The outfits can represent your style, fashion and your self-esteem.

For me, I often remember what I am wearing in my dreams, the colors, fabric, and fit, designer and maybe that is because I love fashion and clothing. After all I
have been in the fashion business for many years now, as my other career!  But I find it very helpful to understanding my dream message by starting with what I am wearing in the dream. Was I wearing something I normally wear? Was it colorful? Were my clothes dirty or clean? Were they beautiful and expensive? Or was I wearing something inappropriate or out of place, like pajamas at work?

Here are a few dream interpretations of fashion and what we wear or don’t wear in our nightime journeys:

Beautiful, Expensive, Designer Clothing: a beautiful attitude, love, luxury, kindness, graciousness. Also indicates your level of self-worth and pay attention to the designer or brand you are wearing because those brands carry their own energy and attitude. For example: If I am wearing a beautiful Chanel gown I know what the brand Chanel means to me so that is added personal dream interpretation.

Weird or Strange clothes: Like a clown suit at a business meeting. This would indicate that you feel ridiculous in this situation or you have a funny attitude about the situation.

Favorite Clothing: This is your familiar comfortable ideas and beliefs, known and suitable.

Clothes that don’t fit: An attitude that doesn’t fit with your overall life and beliefs presently. Or something that is not suitable for you.

          Too Big: Could indicate you need to “grow into” this attitude, lifestyle, if you happen to like the outfit. If you don’t like the outfit then the idea is not for you. Let it go.

          Too Small: This could mean that you have outgrown this attitude or lifestyle, or ideas. That you need to find “your size” that fits you just right.

Lots of emotions run high, lots of love, lots of pressure for many to get the right gift, give the right gift, prepare or have the most romantic dinner at home or restaurant, you all know the drill.  Former Valentines Day I have  received beautiful gifts, expensive gifts, flowers of all types, romantic dinners the whole thing from some pretty wonderful men. But not this year. Yesterday, my furry Valentine, Pierre woke me up with a big paw in my face telling me it was time to get up and let  him out.

Hmmm, very romantic indeed.  I am not currently dating anyone but that did not diminish the day of love for me. In fact, I try to make every day a day of love even it isn’t romantic love.  Sometimes it is not easy. I am not saying or trying to convey to you that ” oh my life is nothing but  koala bears and lollipops” everyday because I am soooo metaphysically and spiritually evolved! ha ha.  Nor, did I dream some psychic dream telling me when and where I am going to meet my forever man. Scratch that, man of the hour, day or month either of those three would be a good start for me! 

 What do I do everyday to make my day a love filled day? Well, I do wake up to that fuzzy cute face every morning and that makes me smile right away.  Then I really try and keep in that positive energy flow by  focusing my thoughts throughout the day on all things, people and places in my life, even the smallest things that make my life sweet and lovely.  For example, I really don’t like my hour commute each way to and from work. Instead of focusing and bitching about that drive and its negative aspects I shift my thoughts and choose to think good things about it. Such as: I get to drive to work in an SUV that I LOVE! I love how luxurious and comfortable it is inside and to ride in and that it is beautiful outside with a powerful engine to move fast when needed or wanted!  I also love that my long drive takes me through beautiful neighborhoods lined with trees, flowers, fountains in front of big beautiful homes and nice roads. And I love that the time it takes me to drive to work, lets me listen to my favorite music and or motivational cd’s that maybe otherwise I would not have the time.  And before I know it I am at work, in a good mood.  

No, I did not get flowers or perfume, or a romantic dinner or a mushy card yesterday from a significant handsome romantic man. But, I did get a card from my mom, (thanks mom) and  I got to give my grandma a Valentine card in the morning before leaving for work, I got to wish many people at work a happy Valentines day while helping a few look fabulous for their special dates last night. And what was really cool about my Valentine’s Day yesterday was that it was really close to what my day is like everyday.  I love and am grateful for the choice that I make to make my every day Valentines’ Day for me – no matter what.

A more in depth look at the meaning of baby and baby actions expanded from my Top 25 Common Dream Symbols.

Babies in dreams can have several different meanings but usually a baby represents: a new idea, new concept or new project that you have given birth to; A responsibility you have now accepted, a personal project or thing to do. It’s your ‘baby’. For example your baby could be a creative idea you have and plan to show the world such as draw, paint, put into music, or starting a business, new job or new project.  Something that is yours alone, that you have birthed. Be a proud parent and display your baby to the world!

A baby: Can represent aspects of you being or acting like a baby, immature, innocent, a new personality trait coming out or starting to be visible in you.

Feeding a baby: You are feeding and nourishing your project. Watching it grow and mature seeing progression. Could also be you encouraging or nourishing the child part of yourself which if it is a brat is not good!

Dead Baby: To dream of a dead baby or dying baby is not a pleasant dream but keep in mind this is not a real baby it is a representation of an important project, job, idea or creative endeavor that you have let die or dropped accidentally. This dream could be pointing out to you that whatever this baby represented it would be wise for you to take care and not let your ideas die or sacrifice your ideas or projects for the sake of someone or something else.  This is something many of us do to ourselves often (think of others before ourselves) could point out that you have allowed another person or situation to take away your hopes and ideas to the point of you letting it, the ‘baby’ die.

Bathing a Baby: Points to you making a fresh start, cleaning up messes and correcting mistakes you have made. Wash away the negative (dirty) stuff and starting new.

Dropping a Baby: Can be pointing out to you that you have dropped a valuable project or idea or hope. Take heed to this dream and consider what the baby represents. You may want to reconsider the action you are about to take in “dropping” it.

Killing a baby: This dream is asking you to look at what you are doing in waking life and is it really worth sacrificing your ‘baby’?  Is it worth the cost?

Losing a baby: Losing your important and precious ideas, or losing hope in relation to something valuable to you

A lot of babies: Could be pointing out too many responsibilities, options, goals, or even problems or opinions for you to deal with.

Falling in your dream is basically  waking back up – the action of returning to consciousness.

The old tale that if you fall and hit the ground in your dream that you will die in your sleep IS NOT TRUE. If you hit the ground in the dream, you will bounce right back and the dream will continue… falling at this point would have the meaning of “falling from grace” or “fall on your face” = embarrassment. It is a play on words, falling in love, heading for a fall, falling down on the job, etc.

Drowning in dreams means you are in a situation that you feel you are in over your head, being in too deep, overwhelmed or emotionally overcome. If you dream you are drowning in muddy or murky water this indicates you are overwhelmed emotionally. There is always a possibility that it is an ESP warning.  It is important that you note the background of the dream and your emotions/feelings in the dream.

Flying in dreams indicates our ability to rise above a situation or emotion.  It can be an indication of astral travel or an indication of your desire to move up to higher levels of being.

There is much discussion in the scientific world as to whether or not we dream in color or in black and white. I have read that some scientists believe that about 80% of our dreams are in color while others say it is biologically impossible to dream in black and white.  On a purely psychic level and not so “scientific” meaning of colors comes from clairvoyants.  A clairvoyant  is someone who can see peoples aura’s (energy surronding us) say that a subjects mood or feeling are a resultant color. i.e. “green with envy or jealousy” “seeing red” or “having the blues” etc. 

 Colors in dreams as in life also have different meanings with respect to our personal feelings, experiences and likes or dislikes of a particular color. For example in general the colors black , dark grey or browns are said to depress people who wear these colors or are surrounded by them. But for me personally being a fashionista those colors are fabulous and when I wear black I feel powerful, in-style and confident. When I wear brown I notice I am in a more down to earth mood. I have worked in the fashion industry for years and any woman in fashion knows the little black dress (thank you Coco Chanel) is a must for all of us! And far from depressing! But let me not get into fashion here - that is a whole other blog! I simply wanted to point out how colors have personal meaning too. The color meanings listed below are general meanings. As I always point out go with your gut or intuitive reaction to the color when interpreting it in your dream.

Black: dark and mysterious, death, mourning or hate if accompanied with feelings of fear. Can also be uncertainty. If you have positive emotions in your dream with the color black it can hint to unmanifested spiritual gifts or qualities

Blue: Truth, Wisdom, calmness, tranquility, devotion (true blue)

Brown: Practical, down to earth, earthy as in nature

Green: healthy, growth, goodness, peace, healing/healer, learning

Gray: depression, fear, illness and undefined or not clear, i.e. the gray area or it’s not black or white its gray meaning not this or that but something in the middle.

Purple: Royalty, healing abilities, spiritual oneness with God, spiritual powers, success, psychic abilities

Calling For A Sign:

Most recently, I have called on a sign to help me make a very hard decision of knowing when to “put to sleep” a dearly beloved pet.

My cat Chloe and I have been together since she picked me out at the shelter 16 years ago. She was the third addition to my cat family, of two boy cats who I had already been adopted by 5 years before. Since our journey together she has moved with me 3 times, seen her two “brother” cats pass on to the rainbow bridge and has gracefully loved my dog Pierre since he was introduced to her 7 years ago and has seen me in every emotional state possible!  A few weeks ago, I noticed she was not up to par. I took her in for her annual and grooming and when I picked her up that day she seemed to have a stuffy nose. For the next 10 days she did not eat or drink and lost 6 pounds. Basically, I was feeding her and giving her water with a syringe every hour. She became severely dehydrated and with one of my other cats I had been through this before and the outlook did not look good for her. I called the vet and we discussed her various problems and her quality of life. I made the appointment for Friday.

That night, I prayed and wrote a letter to God then sat down next to her and told her and the universe: “Listen, I need a sign from you that if it is time for you to go on…if you are ready to go then nothing will change between now and tomorrow. However, if you are not ready to go I request the sign that you get up and eat and drink on your own.”

Four hours later, I was in the kitchen cooking and one of the ingredients I was using was tuna. After opening the can, lo’ and behold here she is in the kitchen meowing and rubbing against me. I picked her up and noticed her nose was completely cleared and she was breathing fine. I put some of the tuna in her bowl and she ate it all, then I opened another can of her food and she ate it all, she then drank from her water dish. Today, one week later, she is still eating and drinking on her own and up and about. It was not time, yet. I thanked the Universe and God for the sign. We are taking it one day at a time.

I have called on signs from friends and loved ones who have passed on to let me know that they hear me talking to them or that they are around. I have called on signs about jobs to take or not take or how to deal with situations. I have called on signs or symbols for knowing which direction I should go in driving or in life!

Why don’t you try calling for a sign to help you? It can be fun and it doesn’t have to be anything major if you are just starting out.  Ask your question and see where the answer comes from. Be wise to your intuition or inner voice and what it is telling you.

But, you don’t always have to call on a sign or symbol to receive one you just need to be aware of them and or coincidences, premonitions, or synchronicities and then figure out what that means for you.  Here is another recent example from my own situation:

This past weekend I went to meet some friends for a coffee at a book store. I happen to put on a pendant that was a Christmas gift from parents of a former friend. This friend and I had been very good friends for years but have not spoken now for three years. Nevertheless, I still cherish the memories of our friendship and move forward and love the pendant and still wear it. This pendant is made of crystal glass and is substantial in size. And with no seeming cause, I was not pulling on it or playing with it…just standing there when it slipped from the chain and fell to the floor smashing in a million tiny pieces. My inner knowing immediately went off that this was a symbol or sign of something in my life that is going on. After a day or so of contemplation, I have come to the conclusion that it is a symbol for a break through about to happen in my life and that when things are shattered particularly glass, an illusion is broken and I can see my life more clearly. In addition, perhaps pertaining to the former friendship that the piece represented, it is completely shattered and I had made the decision (months ago) that our friendship was one that was completed. I had forgiven her and moved on and hope the best for her wherever she is now.

After death communications:

I have loved and lost to death many friends and family and I have my own special symbols and signs that I request from them when I am saying hello or needed help with grieving to know they are ok and that they hear me or for them to let me know they are near. Sometimes a sign from them comes in a dream or they visit me in the dream or during the day. With some it is a particular song, some a flower or color or movie …. It something that is personal that connected me and that person while they were here.

There are so many ways our life and Spirit speaks to us if we would just open up and listen and pay attention. We really do have all the help we need and we are not alone.

It is not only in our dreams that we receive messages from our soul. Everyday of our lives, in each moment the universe, Spirit or God is speaking to us in dreams, signs, symbols, coincidences and synchronicities too. At night when we go to sleep you can ask for a dream to clarify a situation, inspire you or help you make an important decision. We can apply the same technique in our waking time to by asking the universe for a sign or symbol that will help us make a right choice, ease our minds or help us with conditions in our life. They are messages that can pertain to your current life, your future life or something you really need to know.

Where do Signs come from?

Signs come from cultures, religions, secret societies, your heritage and the collective unconscious of the human race. I cannot tell you all the history and information here in this article regarding signs and symbols, it is much too much for here and now in my article.  I can tell you if you have seen the movies, The DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons that Tom Hanks plays the character role of Robert Langdon who studies signs and is a professor of sort on signs and symbols. Basically, signs serve as messengers of important information about your current life or future or can be reflections of what is going on with you in your life and inside of you. I believe that signs are from all mentioned above and God, Spirit or the Universe – Whatever you feel comfortable calling The ALL That Is. And I am happy to share with you my experiences and knowledge gleaned from signs in my life.

 How do signs work?

 I have called on signs or symbols for many years, even though I don’t recall when and where I first used one. I know that I have always known that even little things, coincidences mean something more than first thought to mean. Have you ever been in a hurry and when you are trying to leave your house or office the phone rings, then you drop your briefcase and papers go flying, then you cannot find your keys and the darn situation just keeps going on and on and you are thinking to yourself “damn I just want to go what is the deal here?!”  Then just as you take a moment, take a deep breath, your intuition tells you to just wait. Just then call comes in that was your friend that you were rushing out the door to meet telling you they are canceling or maybe the elevator got stuck and had you been on it you would have been stuck in it too. This is a messenger sign letting you know that hey wait a minute your timing is off…just wait.

 Signs also reflect our inner world, acknowledged or not and they reflect our beliefs. This where the like attracts like thing comes into play too. If you are person who thinks all wealthy people are crooks then you will only see and hear stories and experience wealthy people who are crooks. Even if you are conscious of thinking no not all wealthy people are crooks your inner core belief still radiates out that energy or all rich people are crooks and that is what you attract. You must deal with the belief at the core subconscious level in order to eradicate it and change it for the better for you to attract better. If you really want to know what you truly feel and believe look around your life and see who and what is in it and what its reflecting to you. 

 How do signs appear in your life?

 As mentioned above, it can be something not going along as you like it, being delayed obviously! If you ask the universe for a sign here are a few ways that the sign can appear to you:

 Dreams: These dream signs can be coming from Spirit and or both your higher self pay attention to the most outstanding symbol, sign, word, phrase, emotion or song from a dream and see how it plays out in your waking life to understand it’s message.

 Conversations: Pay attention to conversations, “slips of the tongue”, or over heard conversations (there is a reason they are having the conversation for you to be able to hear it.)  Practice more on truly listening and not thinking about what you are going to say when you are in a conversation in order to hear messages for you. Be in the moment.

 Random thoughts: Pay attention to fleeting seemingly random thoughts that pass through your mind while you are doing something or being “normal

 Songs/Music: Have you ever started singing a song or humming a tune or I personally wake up almost every morning with some random song in my head. What are the words or title it could be a message for you.

 Radio, Television and Movies: Words, scenes, commentary can all be a conveyance for a message to get to you.

 Books, magazines, billboards, printed words: A word or phrase will jump out at you from the page. Sometimes, for a quick reading or answer to a question I will grab a book and sit with it for a few minutes quiet my mind and then ask a question and open the book and see what the first word or sentence to jump out at me says. Many times, it is just what I need to know.

 People: People (known and unknown) can be put on your path to cross with you and give you the answer you need. If you think of a particular person that usually means to call them or see them that they have a message for you. Every single person is meant to see you or cross paths and you them otherwise we would not see them. Just think, you could be carrying a message for them too. It’s not always about us!

In honor of Valentine’s day I thought it would be a good idea to post on love - Dream symbols and dream meanings and themes pertaining to love and romance.

 Love itself is a feeling of great fondness, strong affection, something or someone cherished. Love has so many degrees of feelings, from generic, impersonal to passionate, deep desire and intimacy. There is platonic love, familial love, romantic love, religious love, on up to deep passionate desirable heart, soul and body on fire love!

These degrees of love can play out in our dreams in a myriad of ways.

 Let’s take a look at some of them –

Flowers are of course big symbols of love. In our dreams flowers symbolize beautiful, kind thoughts, loving thoughts, joy, compassion, grace, healing and abundance. They can also be “time tellers” as certain flowers are associated with particular times of the year.

Floral bouquet given or received in your dreams symbolizes love, affection, appreciation and admiration. In a dream, when you receive flowers as a gift pay attention to the type of flower(s) in the bouquet and the color(s) to understand the fullest meaning.

 A rose is the symbol of spiritual love, beauty, Christ love. One that is also fragrant in the dream is a good indication that an angel or spiritual being is close to you.

 White Rose(s): Pure, unconditional love, holy or cosmic love

 Pink Rose(s): Love, affection, kindness and compassion

 Red Rose(s): Romantic love, personal love, being in love, passion and desire

 Tulips: Can be a play on ‘two lips’ kissing! They represent joy and spring, hope, faith and charity.

 One of the ways our dreams tell us about our emotions is through color. Dreaming in color or of a particular color that stands out on an object, clothing, background etc. represents emotions attached to the color. Love and romance are represented by the colors: pink, red, wine, blue and violet.

Kissing, being kissed in dreams can obviously be romantic and is a show of love and affection. However, if the kiss is in a non-romantic way or the overall feeling of the dream is negative then this could indicate deception. As in the Judas kiss.

There are so many more symbols of love and each of us has our own special symbols of love in addition to common ones we share. As I always remind you when interpreting your dreams it so important to ask yourself first for what your meaning is for any symbol before looking to any dictionary or someone else’s meaning. In understanding the meaning of your dream I think the most important clue is the feeling you have upon awaking from it. Then go from there to figure the rest out.

Have you ever had a dream of school? Being in school? Or going to school?

Many of us have at one time or another. As listed in my top 25 dream symbols school is one of the common dream themes we understand as a group.  The dream symbol is usually the background theme of a dream and can be an action symbol (learning) when interpreting your dream. This can be your level of learning (school) of thought. Pay attention to what grade level you are attending in the dream, as this is an indication as to what level you are operating at in regards to a particular situation. School can also be a negative  aspect of feeling indoctrinated.  A school is considered a building as in school house or school building (duh?) and buildings represent our various states of consciousness, awareness, associations and general belief system. The type of building in your dream points out a particular state of consciousness in your dream.

In general, school pertains to learning or opportunity for knowledge, growth experience,  expansion of consciousness or mind improvement. Level or type of school would indicate your level of learning. i.e. kindergarten, grade school, high school, college.  College, University and Graduate School are places of higher academia, specialized and or more focused training, advanced learning and training. These are places of exchange of ideas, trying new things, and also these are places of social  and cultural concepts and changes.

Perhaps you have had a dream of being in a particular class or classroom, this could indicate that there is room for further learning on a particular subject.  Were there any books or anything written on the chalk board or maybe decorations that could point you to what the subject is. Was there a specific teacher there? What do you associate that teacher with (if you had her/him in the past)? If the teacher is a friend or parent or relative this teacher characterizes someone in your life that is capable of teaching something important.  Think of what that teacher represents to you. Maybe play the association game or the first three thoughts that come to mind when you think of that person. These can all help disifer the dream message.

Having school work is a reminder to us that we must keep working hard and applying ourselves if we want to learn.

If you are attending school right now and dream of being at a lower level or higher level than you are in your waking life, this is like others dreaming of their workplace.  It would indicate your level of knowledge or behaviour in a particular area. Maybe you are acting like a pre-schooler or are you smarter than a fifth grader? Or it’s all elementary my dear.  Again, as I always say interpreting your dreams takes time and you must look at all things as a puzzle that fit together to understand the message.

Dreaming of taking tests and/or examinations are about knowing the truth. This dream symbol/meaning  has to do with self esteem and confidence or lack of it. Being prepared or not, making the grade or not,  measuring up to other people’s expectations or fear of not being good enough. The most important test of our lives is knowing our own goals, standards, hopes and wishes. Being crystal clear about what you want in life and standing up for what you believe and living YOUR own life on YOUR terms.

For further insight into the area where you feel you are being tested in, look at what the test was on in your dream. It is normal to dream of being tested, taking a test etc occasionally because it challenges us to work better at goals we are trying to achieve. However, to dream of tests often or repeatedly point to a lack of confidence in ourselves or not measuring up to other peoples imposed standards on us. Both indicate a need to heal yourself, improve your self confidence and start listening to and follow through what you KNOW to be true for you and not others imposed expectations of you. Having a low self esteem is much of the cause of our failure or fear of failure.  Having these dreams of tests and being tested repeatedly is a message from your soul telling/showing us where we need to work on and heal ourselves.

Let’s look closer at types of dream tests and their possible meanings:

Fear of Failure: This fear is one most of us are familiar with in one way or another. The dreams of being not prepared is showing us just how we really feel about ourselves. Lacking confidence and being afraid. Many of us fear that we will not measure up the expectations or standards imposed by our family, spouse, friends, or boss. The test dream can point this out if we are not consciously aware of this feeling or are side stepping it and not dealing with it. Remember, what YOUR goals are not other peoples goals for you, YOUR expectations and standards not other people is a test of your self confidence and ability to live YOUR life for you. When you do this life opens up and meets you and supports you in all ways.
